To Rate Books ... or not to rate books ...

So, as you should well know, being a reader of this blog and all, I love to read.
I think I’m addicted to it, the hubs will attest to that no doubt.
And maybe I bring this on myself, because I refuse to read book reviews, but sometimes, I think I would like to see books have ratings.
For movies, PG-13 = one F BOMB. Nudity, sex, violence can equate to an R rating.

In music, questionable lyrics come with PARENTAL ADVISORY WARNINGS.

Books have the freedom that movies and music don’t have.
Sometimes I know exactly what I’m about to read, and I accept I’ve chosen to read it.
But most times, a synopsis will only tell you so much, and 60 pages in, the throbbing and thrusting sneaks up on you.
I’m not a prude, not even close, but sometimes it would be nice if someone slapped a warning on a book or even a polite FYI to warn me about the heaving and cleaving, you know ?

People are Nice

I love me some post secret ... when it's funny or nice.
Sometimes it's a bit too deep or depressing, but, for a Monday, this is sweet.
PAY IT FORWARD PEOPLE!

Ode to Sexy

Mr Giles,

This post is dedicated you and your amazingness.

Remember the first time we met ?
We were at a Halo party, you asked me if I knew your boy Butters ?
I thought you were a tool.
You probably thought the same of me.
Ahh, the good old days ;)

Remember the next time we "met" ?
We were at Tasi and Beka's potluck in the park across the street from the Omni apartments ...
You with your SUN-IN hair, me in my church clothes ?
Me and Mykie laughed at you, can't remember why ... (you musn't be that funny :P)
We didn't talk.
Mostly because I'm not friendly.
For your sake, it was probably a good thing.

Remember when we REALLY met ?
You came to my brother's wedding.
My hair was on my head nice and high, looking like a pair of testicles?
You "called" me, and then you laughed at me because I cut my hair.
I'm impulsive, what can I say?

Remember how we REALLY REALLY met ?
On the back of Beka's truck.
;)

Since we're about to celebrate 8 years of meeting and remeeting each other, I thought it was important to dedicate a post to you, and your sexiness.

You're the frosting to my cake
The cheese on my rice
The glaze on my donut
The corn in my beef
The toy in my happy meal

And no matter how many movies I watch or post pictures of hard-bodied, sweat glistening, shirtless men, you will always be the most beautiful man I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.

GAG AWAY PEOPLE! THIS IS LOVE!

Warrior

The hubs and I went to the movies the other day and debated between seeing two movies.
The Debt (which is already highly rated and positively reviewed) and Warrior (no consumer reviews as it was a sneak peak) and being the compromising person I am, we saw the movie I wanted to see, Warrior.

It's the story of an estranged pair of brothers, both fighting for something important to each of them. They haven't seen each other in years, a family torn apart by the alcoholic abuse of their father.

When I saw the first preview of this movie, I wanted to see it, not for the content, but because I'm a huge "How I Met Your Mother" fan, and the main women is played by a key character from last season. In this movie, she plays the wife of Joel Edgerton, and I love that she plays a gritty character, who doesnt always look perfect, and walks around in her undies looking like she just woke up. A nice bit of realism.

I'm always super supportive of Australian actors, and Joel Edgerton played the underdog in this movie. He and Tom Hardy play the estranged brothers.

Tom Hardy is insane. He is quality in Inception (the only movie I've seen him in).

Nick Nolte plays the recovering alcoholic father, and his character is the heart of this movie.
His performance draws you in, the mumbling, the rawness of his emotions, it's intense.

I'm not a big MMA fan, but this movie has some pretty gnarly fight scenes and I was on the edge of my seat absolutely enthralled in what was happening.

The guys in this are ripped, ridiculously, and if you like a good fist-to-face movie, this is for you.

RECOMMENDATION: See it. If you enjoy a good solid movie plot, with quality actors this is it.

RATING: A large Sub Zero Premium Caramel Ice-Cream.

Alright my book club people ....

I put it out there last month that I wanted to do an online book club.
I got a number of emails and FB comments, and since I didnt have EVERYONEs email addresses, thought I would stick the September book on the blog.

The book is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

It won't be released for a couple of weeks, and since I prefer not to read reviews, I'm not going to post one.

Remember, if you are keen to join my book club, shoot your email address to daynakaranga@gmail.com so you can get the email updates on the book of the month.
